Nigerian rap star Olamide has stirred major buzz after making a striking statement about Afrobeats while speaking to students at York University in Toronto.
During the Q&A session, the YBNL boss declared Wizkid as the greatest Afrobeats artiste of this generation, placing him right after the iconic Fela Kuti.
Olamide referenced their long-running collaborations dating back to 2011 on songs like Street OT and Kana, noting that Wizkid has continuously elevated Afrobeats on a global scale.
He said:
“I’ve had the privilege of working with Wizkid we’ve made so many songs together. You know say after Fela, Wizkid is the greatest Afrobeats artist ever.”
His remark instantly got loud cheers from the students and quickly blew up on social media. While many applauded his honesty, others revived the ongoing debate about who truly holds the crown in Afrobeats today.
The conversation, which touched on Nigerian music, culture, and the worldwide rise of Afrobeats, became more animated as Olamide’s comment circulated online.
Whether people agree with him or not, one thing is certain: Nigerian music continues to dominate the global scene.
