Popular content creator Ola of Lagos has shared a deeply personal story about how being “too nice” once cost him a staggering ₦18 million, teaching him a hard lesson about kindness and boundaries.
During a recent online conversation, the influencer revealed that he got involved in a business deal not necessarily out of pity, but because he wanted to help and be generous. Unfortunately, that decision backfired, leaving him with a huge debt he never anticipated.
“I once went into a business, not because I was being pitiful but because I wanted to be too nice. That single decision left me with an ₦18 million debt. Imagine pulling ₦18 million out of your pocket to settle something you shouldn’t have been involved in at all it just makes no sense,” he recounted.
Hard Lessons on Kindness and Setting Limits
Ola explained that the experience completely changed his outlook on generosity. While he still believes in giving back, he now understands the importance of being wise and setting boundaries.
“That experience made me decide never to be too nice again. I still show love to the streets, but now I do it with sense,” he added.
His revelation quickly sparked widespread reactions online, with many praising his honesty while others argued that his situation was more about poor judgment than kindness.
Social Media Reactions
The confession stirred a heated debate across social platforms:
- @keenn_eth wrote: “If you’re too sweet, they’ll lick you dry.”
- @Smartek2 commented: “So you’re blaming kindness for a bad business choice? Don’t demonize being nice because you made a poor decision.”
- He added: “Ola of Lagos should just admit he got scammed. Nigerians love to rebrand failure.”
- @SAb noted: “That’s a tough but real lesson. Kindness is great, but not when it puts you in massive debt. Helping others shouldn’t mean hurting yourself.”
