Popular Nollywood actor and filmmaker Odunlade Adekola is currently under fire on social media after publicly congratulating Nigeria Police Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi on his recent promotion.
Earlier this week, the Police Service Commission announced Adejobi’s elevation from Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), praising his dedication and professionalism.
In a celebratory Instagram post, Adekola wrote:
“Congratulations, sir. As the new DSP @adejobimuyiwa, God will bless you more, sir.”
Though the message seemed like a simple gesture of support, it quickly drew backlash from some Nigerians who criticized the actor for applauding an institution many believe has failed the public.
Several online users accused Adekola of endorsing a system marred by misconduct, corruption, and lack of accountability, especially in cases involving injustice and abuse of power.
One user wrote, “Una no see the guy hand in Omoyele Sowore’s detention right? You failed to speak up for injustice because it favours you. No worry, Nigeria will also happen to you.”
Another added, “This position shall be a curse and not a blessing because they oppress people and tell lies.”
