The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has reiterated the rationale behind the ongoing nationwide industrial action. Using its official social media platform, the NLC, formerly known as Twitter, stated that they are on strike and disclosed the primary reason for the protest.

According to the labor union, the National President, Mr. Joe Ajaero, visited Imo state as directed by the NLC National Executive Council (NEC) to advocate for workers who were owed 31 months of salaries. Additionally, over ten thousand workers were reportedly unjustly declared ghost workers in Imo state. The NLC emphasized its commitment to fighting for the rights of all workers, cautioning them not to be misled.

Furthermore, the NLC reported that Joe Ajaero was attacked and subjected to brutality by thugs associated with the Imo State Governor and the police while carrying out his civic duty. The nationwide strike action commenced at midnight on Monday, the 13th of 2023.
