The national grid in Nigeria shut down completely due to a strike by the NLC, causing a blackout across the country. The strike was initiated by TCN employees, represented by the NUEE, who turned off all power substations at 2:19 AM on Monday, June 3. The strike was a result of unsuccessful negotiations with the government regarding a new minimum wage and increased electricity tariffs. The unions argue that the current minimum wage of ₦30,000 is insufficient for the average Nigerian worker, and some governors are not complying with the existing wage agreement.
