The recent increase in electricity tariffs has sparked widespread outrage, leading to the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) taking drastic action by shutting down the headquarters of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) in Plateau State. The NLC aims to draw attention to the plight of consumers and demand a reversal of the tariff hike. The main gate of the company was blocked by the labour union, which left the staff of DisCo stranded outside the main building. The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) had previously vowed to embark on a nationwide shutdown of offices belonging to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Distribution Companies (DisCos) due to their failure to meet the unions’ demand for a complete reversal of the recent electricity tariff hike. As the unions remain determined to push for a reduction in the tariffs, they will continue to take drastic action.
