Just ten days into the new year, Nigeria’s national power grid has faced its first significant failure of 2025, resulting in widespread blackouts across the country.
This incident marks the 13th grid collapse in the past 13 months, adding to the growing frustration among Nigerians over the frequent power outages.
According to The Punch, power generation dropped drastically from 2,111.01 megawatts at 2:00 pm to only 390.20 MW by 3:00 pm.
The Energy Podcast confirmed the collapse, stating, “National grid suffers major collapse… First in 2025.”
By 2:40 pm, reports indicated that efforts to restore power were underway, with 302 MW having been brought back online. Further updates on the collapse and restoration progress are expected soon.
