Nigerians have taken to the streets in large numbers to celebrate Donald Trump’s victory as the 47th President of the United States. Recently re-elected, Trump, the Republican candidate and former U.S. President, won the 2024 election, defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, who had hoped to become the first female U.S. president.
In a widely circulated video online, Nigerians are seen holding placards, singing, and expressing gratitude for Trump’s win, chanting, “Thank you, Jesus, we are grateful.”
However, the video has sparked criticism from Nigerian social media users, with many labeling the celebration as unnecessary and embarrassing.
A social media user @Mwdonly opined, “They should be arrested for flying the flag of another country in Nigeria.”
Another user @BFolaa stated, “Na NGO work be that, e go get one origination (group of people) wey go arrange these people so that they can earn from the white….The organization only need their Photos and Videos as evidence. They will later give all these people one rubber of rice to compensate them.”
