Nigerians have taken to the streets holding placards to protest the arrest of popular online personality VeryDarkMan, urging authorities to release him immediately.
A video of the protest, shared on the social platform X (formerly known as Twitter), captured demonstrators chanting and calling for his freedom. In the footage, one protester said, “EFCC, if you’re the one that arrested VDM, free him,” prompting a chorus of similar demands from the crowd.
Reports suggest VeryDarkMan was apprehended outside a GTBank branch after accompanying his mother to file a complaint about an unauthorized withdrawal from her account. Moments after leaving the bank, he was allegedly detained. However, the specific agency responsible for his arrest remains unconfirmed.
Supporters have since mobilized both online and on the streets, calling for his immediate release and criticizing what they see as unjust treatment.
The video sparked widespread reactions online, with users expressing frustration and support:
- @iluv_Velvet25: “Good effort, but after the last protest that cost lives, I’ve become wary. Nigeria can be too cruel sometimes.”
- @amaechi_josh: “Why are Nigerians afraid to speak up? They just use fear to silence us. Change won’t happen unless we take action!”
- @Washing1M: “Hope the president sees this. He should order GTBank closed and scrap EFCC. We need a new agency—the EFCC and police are a disaster.”
- @AmBlackweezy: “This is just the beginning. On Monday, we hit Abuja. We’re taking over EFCC streets—they must release him in good health.”
- @CrichzC: “This is the most inspiring thing I’ve seen in a while. Three voices can become a movement.”
