MTN Nigeria is facing a class action lawsuit from disgruntled users who allege experiencing rapid data depletion and fraudulent data top-ups.
The initiative gained traction after a user on X (formerly Twitter) shared a post expressing eagerness to be part of any lawsuit against the telecom giant. The tweet included a screenshot purportedly showing unexplained data usage, which resonated with many online users.
Not long after, a Google Form link surfaced, inviting others with similar complaints to sign up and join the lawsuit.
The form reads: “This class action lawsuit is for MTN customers who have encountered problems such as false data top-ups and unusually fast data drainage. Many Nigerians are losing money without receiving the expected value for their data, especially when compared to international standards.”
As the form circulated, numerous Nigerians took to the comment section to share their frustrations and support for the action.
Here are some reactions:
-
@okumaonome: “Why only MTN? All the networks are guilty. If others were different, MTN wouldn’t still be in business.”
-
@akpoobomedamsel: “Count me in. This daylight robbery has gone on for too long.”
-
@JayAdediran: “A class action against MTN? You have better odds of seeing a polar bear in Nigeria.”
-
@Ilaria174642458: “I bought 3.2GB and only got 2.5GB. When I complained, they apologized with empty words.”
-
@zaza_the_great: “Let’s do one for Airtel too. I’m ready to go traditional if that’s what it takes.”
-
@Zeem_Miles: “What about us Airtel and 9mobile users? Our own data issues are on another level.”
-
@Richjackhim: “I’m all in. This nonsense needs to end.”
