Nigerian musician Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, faces criticism from Nigerians following the release of his latest music video. Despite his widespread appeal for his catchy tunes and danceable tracks, his new music video titled ‘Only Me’ has sparked backlash, particularly due to its portrayal of Christianity.
Directed by TG. Omori, the music video features Asake and some video vixens dressed in priestly attire, engaging in activities that some deem disrespectful to the Christian faith. Social media influencer Solomon Buchi expressed his disapproval, describing Asake’s actions as disrespectful and questioning why Christians still support his music.
In response to the video, many Nigerians expressed outrage, with some noting that if similar disrespect were shown towards the Muslim faith, it would likely incite violence. Others criticized Asake for allegedly targeting Christianity to gain attention, while some called for action from Christian associations to address the issue.
Critics also targeted the video director, arguing that he should bear responsibility for the concept of the video. Overall, there is widespread condemnation of the video’s portrayal of Christianity and calls for accountability from both Asake and the video director.
