A statement from the the Buahri Campaign Organisation suggests that Nigerians are poorer today than they were in 1999, when Nigeria returned to democracy.
They called the economic growth usually referred to by the presidency a phantom.
There is no doubt that Nigerians are poorer today than they were in 1999; since then, a lot of factories had closed and millions rendered jobless. The phantom economic growth figures being bandied about by the Jonathan administration are not a true reflection of the harsh economic reality on the ground,” said Osita Okechukwu, in a statement of behalf of the Buhari campaign organisation.
“Buhari remains a man of integrity and uncommon candour; we therefore stand by his statement that our economy is deteriorating in the midst of unprecedented Oil and Gas revenue. Over N4 trillion made annually by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), almost N1 trillion made annually by the Customs Service, minus dubious Custom Waivers and accruals from other federal government agencies.
“May we ask, if the Nigerian economy, ‘has consistently maintained an unprecedented growth rate of 6-7% under the Jonathan administration. They also show that the Nigerian economy is now the leading economy in Africa and the 26th largest in the world with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of over $500 billion per annum’; why is there gross unemployment wrecking millions of homes in Nigeria? Why is there crass inequality, a scenario where the greatest number of Nigerians are barely eking out a living? These are phantom economic growth figures,” Okechukwu argued.
“It is on record that Buhari built two refineries as Minister of Petroleum. It is also on record that he did not abuse his office by allocating Oil Block to himself.
“For the avoidance of doubt, contrary to the falsehood of the presidency, Buhari’s manifesto is anchored on the core principles of progressivism and social democracy, which is pro-people; unlike the anti- people programmes, share the money, inchoate and nebulous economic policies of the PDP, which has impoverished greatest majority of the citizenry, ” Okechukwu added.
Dear Osita Okechukwu,
I suggest you should allow Gen. Buhari to have his pensionable rest. For how long would Nigerian continue to parade 70yrs and above for a post of the President?
Buhari is an opportunist, many people are afraid to make this comment. He had opportunity which many of us would have had if we had born then when things were not in stiff competition. He was brought to the platform of Maj Gen. Tunde Idiadgbon squad to boost the military council. He did not know the genesis and that was why it was very easy for IBB to considered him no threat.
Maj Gen Tunde Idiagbon was the actor, a master planner, a man with defined mandate. in fact Idiagbon was the wai, anti corruption and mandator of good hehaviour.
Buhari does not possess the attributes of a good leader, eg IBB knows that Buhari is not a threat to his ambition but Idiagbon who was way to saudi Arabia for religious assignment.
Compare Gen Mutala Mohammed overthrown to Gen Gowon, was Gowon in the country? come to think when Dimka radically sacrificed himself by killing Gen Mutala Mohammed because he knew what Gen Murtala was up to or do you want to compare Gideon Okah attempt? was that a childish effort? But IBB with no stress pushed Buhari aside and agreed to step down by signing of documents for junior officer to hand over.
IBB warned Gen Tunde Idiagbon not to come back to Nigeria. the brave soldier and mandator of our the country flout the directive and return. Osita, now let us know who was the action head of state and the ceremonial/paper head of state?
Therefore, allow this man to rest. We Nigerian should be talking about how to pick a vibrant youth between age bracket of 35 – 45yrs for president. after president Jonathan in 2019.
Buhari himself should have known that in a country of 170 million people, it is difficult to get number citizen thwice. OBJ was used to compensatory error to Yuruba nation QED.
Osita Okechukwu, please tell Gen Buhari to drop his ambition because he will not win election again in Nigeria even if he declares to GREAT PDP come to talk about violent, tribalistic, and selfish apc platform.
