A Nigerian social media user has sparked outrage with his insensitive comments about the personal lives of billionaire daughters Temi Otedola and DJ Cuppy.
In a now-deleted tweet, a user identified as @Fortunatebackup made an unkind comparison between Temi’s marital status and DJ Cuppy’s relationship situation, writing:
“Two billionaire daughters—one can’t find a husband to marry, and the one who found a husband hasn’t had a child.”
The post quickly went viral, garnering over two million impressions, with many social media users condemning the remarks as insensitive.
Amidst the backlash, @Fortunatebackup issued an apology on X (formerly Twitter), expressing regret over his statement.
“I sincerely apologize for my previous tweet about DJ Cuppy and Temi Otedola. I never intended to hurt or offend anyone. My words were thoughtless, and I deeply regret them. I have deleted the tweet and will be more mindful of what I say in the future,” he wrote.
While some users accepted his apology, others criticized him for making such remarks in the first place, stressing the importance of sensitivity when discussing people’s private lives.
A social media user, @ChiomaOgbuigwe, reacted: “People just type nonsense without thinking. I hope legal action is taken so others can learn from this. That tweet is everywhere on TikTok.”
However, not everyone saw an issue with the statement. Another user, @LagosPresidentt, remarked: “I don’t understand why people are overreacting. It wasn’t even that deep. Someone simply pointed out the obvious, and now everyone is upset. It’s not like he directly mocked them. Y’all will be fine.”
