Micheal Onmajuru, 49, a Nigerian traffic warden was forced out of his job after exposing that illegal immigrants were issuing parking tickets on the streets of London, a tribunal has heard.
MrOnumajuru claimed that his boss at NSL – which operates parking enforcement for Camden Council – was at the centre of a racket in which Nigerian migrants used fake passports to gain work.
But when he challenged his managers he was transferred to a different base and then dismissed after almost three years on the job.
Mr Onumajuru told the hearing it was his boss, operational support manager Adebowale Onadeko, who was ‘at the centre of the illegal working’, and around 40 per cent of the wardens were employed unlawfully.
At one point, he was even ordered by supervisors to ‘concentrate on issuing tickets and not worry about illegal workers’, he said.
In his witness statement to Central London Employment Tribunal, Mr Onumajuru said: ‘Shortly after commencing employment in July 2008 it came to my attention that the respondent was employing illegal workers.
‘Whilst I was training with other members of staff they told me that they were using fake documents to work and that the respondent was aware of the situation.
‘I informed them that I was shocked to hear that the respondent was aware of their status and still took them on as employees.’
The workers reported the conversation to NSL, he said, and afterwards he was ‘not allowed to work with those particular employees’.
He confronted Mr Onadeko about the situation, he said, complaining that a criminal offence was being committed and that matters were ‘deliberately concealed from the authorities’.
He said he made three protected disclosures, he said, the first to Mr Onadeko in July 2008, again in March 2009 and November 2010.
The tribunal heard he informed Mr Onadeko of three employees working with false passports, including one who admitted to him he had acquired his ID from someone in Peckham and it had been manufactured at a fake passport factory.
He was subsequently subjected to abuse from the staff he had reported, he added, and complained to the HR team of the ‘bullying and harassment’ he had received from Mr Onadeko.
But the following day, Mr Onadeko told him the woman in HR was junior to him and ‘nothing would happen’.
At a later date, he was called into a meeting with Mr Onadeko and another manager. Mr Onumajuru said: ‘[They] advised me that they could not accept the low rate of tickets that I was issuing and that I should concentrate on issuing tickets and not worry about illegal workers’.
‘I understood this to be a direct threat to me,’ he added.
In mid-2011, he wrote a letter to managers complaining of ‘corrupt activity’ carried out by illegal workers and, he claims, it was this that led to his dismissal.
He said: ‘Solicitors acting on my behalf have attempted to obtain by way of discovery details of the identity checks that the respondent carried out and the numbers who have been found to have been working with false

Dear and fellow citizen,
this is how mr Adebowale Onadeko Nigeria boss in London treat his fellow Nigeria simple because i am not from Yoruba Origin. I love my self and respect the hand made of God no mater where you come from. I owe my God that i will never be part of tribal sentiment.
Also, the down fall of a man is not the end of it. I thank the prime Minister of United Kingdom for his concern on letter dated to me in 2011 but that is not the end untill i see United Kingdom socialise with German system of 95% purity in terms of employment system.
Again, many thanks to you all that sympathise to my situation since last year June 2011 till date.

This is Nigerian bosses subjecting fellow Nigerians to slavery, I heard on other contracts they collect money from the illegal workers.
Imagine, life is hard enough as an illegal worker, for someone to now be abusing you on top of you running from the law is just unbelievable. Illegal workers are simply trying to make a living.
Michael

Yeah, I heard about this. I was hoping to write a sosuisbimn until I noticed it was only open to Nigerian nationals. Whilst I understand this clause, it is a crying shame. As your blog and many others have shown, there is interest in Nigeria from across the globe. It would be impossible to imagine a country not in touch with a Nigerian in some form, given that they make up 1 of every 4 africans!Anyway, it seems the BCC World Service is focusing on Nigeria tomorrow. This may be of interest to you and your readers. As for the competition, I may just submit an entry and let them bin it straight off. If I’m lucky it may actually get read – lol.
It will be nice if you can tell the whole world who is sympathising with you to tell them the truth of the matter and why you were sacked, rather than painting nigerian bosses black.they never sacked you because you exposed the illegal immigrants in the job, so please tell the true story.
mike why not tell the truth about what happened, you got caught. And being investigated, say what happened between you and coach drivers. And how many fake tickets you issued on daily basis. Stop painting Debo’s name, you lair. You should tell the world how much you make @ end of your shifts. your case got nothing to do with illegal immigrants. Accept your mistakes and dont let that repeat itself. (greed).
micheal, you got caught misconducting that was it . Stop painting Debo as a bad boss, what happened between & coach drivers , how many fake tickets you issued anytime you on shift?. You should keep shut and dont mislead people reading your story. LAIR.
It appears your itennt is to defraud the credit card companies. So, it is illegal. As credit cards are issued world wide, you probably won’t escape repayment. They will find you and sue, possibly garnish your wages (which employers do not like) and tie up any bank accounts.Use your creative imagination in more honest and useful ways and you can become a millionaire.
micheal
why hiding the truth about what happened, tell the world how many fake tickets issued by you on daily basis before you got caught and what happened with your deal with the coach drivers. Stop black mailling Debo. You are a disgrace. Illegal immgrant got nothing to do with your issue stop making up stories.
mr martin cutts,
You don’t need to help this guy he is a bloody liar, ask him about the money he collect from motorist who park illegally and how much he collect from them, he is a frustrated single man with no wife and children, he is only looking for a quick money he did the same from Germany where he got his papers from. he was already on suspension before the immigration matters and even if they are illegal he was once an illegal immigrant before he got his papers, he is a bloody THIEF. PLEASE ASK HIM TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED, and stop talking about Mr Debo, bcos he is not the personel manager employing people.
Oh Michael, a frustrated weed smoker! Why dont you tell the masses the truth about your dismissal and leave the poor man alone. We all know about your bribe taking and illegal fines you issued to poor motorists. Debo is not part of the recruiting team and you know so why implicate the poor man. God has seen you, LIAR>>
@martin cutts, you would not want to know this liar. He does drugs, no family and frustrated who took bribes whise on duty. He was caught red handed, and even with that, he was still given a chance to work in another base, but his arrogance and stupidness got him into being dismissed.
To the person who did not want to be disclosed and Abbey, Michael is a good and honest man and Debo is an evile corrupt person how has abused many Nigerian immigrants who work for NSL. Also he arranged for counterfeit ID documents for these people so they could work for NSL and intern he pressurised them in to working exhaustive hours and in to Behaving in a deceitful and predatory way in issuing vexatious quantities of PCNs. It will not be long and Debo will have his come upance. As for you chinilligi you speak utter chrap you silly deluded person
