Nigerian beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina has claimed the first runner-up position at the Miss Universe pageant, marking Nigeria’s best performance in the competition’s history.
Chidimma placed second behind Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, who won the title at the 73rd annual Miss Universe event. Competing against over 120 contestants worldwide, the 23-year-old became the first Nigerian to achieve this high rank.
The top five finalists included Miss Mexico, María Fernanda Beltrán Figueroa, in third, along with contestants from Thailand and Venezuela.
Adetshina’s journey was met with challenges, as she faced online harassment related to her Nigerian heritage, bringing attention to issues of inclusivity and acceptance.
