Nigerian airlines that operate domestic flights have announced price cuts for their tickets.
As more airlines join the teeming competition on domestic routes, this development comes as a welcome relief.
Various airlines have also launched promotions to entice passengers as the holiday season approaches.
Airlines in Nigeria are gradually lowering ticket prices on domestic routes as more airlines join amid increased competition and increased flight frequencies.
Recently, more airlines have increased flight frequencies on routes that were previously only served by a few airlines.
Dana Air’s resumption of flights has also increased competition, resulting in price cuts.
Another local airline, ValueJet, recently resumed flights, further lowering fares.
According to BusinessDay, a one-hour flight ticket previously sold for N90,000 by Arik, United Nigeria, Ibom Air, Azman, and Air Peace in October has been reduced to around N70,000 or lower.
Return tickets, which were previously sold for between N160 and N170, have been reduced to between N120,000 and N140,000.
Air Peace has announced that it will resume flights to Uyo for a fare of N50,000. Ibom Air has reduced the price of its Lagos-Uyo flight from N80,000 to N55,000.
Although holiday ticket prices have remained high, passengers can now purchase tickets at lower prices than a few weeks ago.
Air Peace resumed flights from Lagos to Abuja to Owerri on November 28, 2022, as well as four weekly flights from Abuja to Kano on the same day.
It also announced the reintroduction of the Port Harcourt Garden City Express, which will transport customers directly from Lagos to the Nigerian Air Force Base in Port Harcourt.
The airline received two new Airbus 320 aircraft to support its operations in Nigeria, bringing the total number of aircraft in its fleet to ten.
Air Peace also announced that daily morning flights to Benin would resume.
Dana Air also announced that flights from Abuja to Owerri Enugu will resume on December 9, 2022.
