103 Nigerians deported from Turkey have been received by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other stakeholders upon their arrival at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Friday at 7pm. They were greeted by Federal Government officials led by NEMA, arriving via the pilgrims’ wing of the airport on a Southwind Airlines flight, TCGRB, from Turkey.
Addressing the returnees, NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, urged them to accept their situation positively and adhere to the law. Represented by Alhaji Bashir Garga, Director of the North Central Zone, she assured that they were received with dignity to alleviate their ordeal and addressed federal government concerns.
Mrs. Umar also announced financial assistance to aid their transportation to various destinations. After screening by Port Health Authority officials and profiling by NEMA and NCFRMI, the returnees were cleared by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and provided transportation for their onward journeys.
Various stakeholders including NIS, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons were involved in receiving the deportees, alongside FAAN, Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC, NDLEA, Port Health Authority, and NIA.
