The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed a viral “wanted” poster of Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, calling it fake and misleading.
The poster, which bore the tag “SPECIAL POLICE WANTED” alongside the actress’s photo, had circulated widely on social media between Tuesday and Wednesday, claiming she was wanted by the Inspector General of Police’s Monitoring Unit.
In an official statement released on Thursday via its Facebook page, the Police clarified that the notice did not originate from them and urged the public to ignore it.
The statement read:
“FAKE NEWS ALERT! This ‘WANTED’ poster of actress Iyabo Ojo did not emanate from the Nigeria Police Force. It is false, misleading & was never posted on any official NPF platform.”
The NPF further warned against spreading misinformation, advising Nigerians to always confirm updates from the Force’s verified channels.
“Disregard & stop spreading fake news. Verify only from official NPF channels,” the statement concluded.
