Nigeria Police Confirm Lil Smart’s Arrest Over Cyberstalking and False Allegations Against Naira Marley
The Nigeria Police have responded to widespread reports regarding the arrest of Lil Smart, a former Marlian Records signee, following his recent online dispute with his former record label boss, Naira Marley, and artist Zinoleesky.
Lil Smart had previously accused Naira Marley and Zinoleesky of assault, abduction, and manipulation, sparking heated discussions across social media.
Amid the controversy, renowned Nollywood producer Stanley Ontop claimed that Lil Smart had been arrested and detained at an undisclosed location, further fueling speculation.
In a recent update, the Nigeria Police issued a statement via Instagram, confirming the arrest and addressing the circulating reports.
According to the statement, Lil Smart was taken into custody on charges of cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and spreading falsehoods about Naira Marley. Authorities disclosed that the arrest took place last month at his residence in Megamound Estate, Ajah, Lagos, where key evidence related to the case was recovered.
The statement read:
“Following a petition from a legal firm, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Unit apprehended Idowu Smart Emmanuel on allegations of criminal defamation, cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and disseminating false information against Abdulazeez Adeshina Fashola (popularly known as Naira Marley).”
Investigations revealed that Lil Smart had used his Instagram account (@lilsmart_) to falsely claim he was abducted and assaulted.
“On January 28, 2025, he was arrested at his residence in Megamound Estate, Ajah, Lagos, and key exhibits linked to the crime were seized,” the statement added.
