The Nigeria Police Force is being accused of endorsing domestic violence by allegedly advising a man, who had reported his abusive wife, to retaliate physically. A user on the social media platform ‘X,’ identified as @Baaboosa1, criticized the police for their perceived failure in handling the situation. According to the user, the man seeking assistance for domestic abuse was purportedly counseled by the police to respond by physically harming his wife. The user argued that advising the man to consider ending the marriage would have been a more appropriate response, rather than encouraging a potentially dangerous conflict between the couple.
“Nigerian police are bad at all their jobs. This man gets his wife arrested every time she hits him. Now, the police are advising him to start hitting her back. They didn’t tell him to leave her o, they gave him an advice where one of them is likely ending up dead,” he wrote.
