The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), on Tuesday, disclosed that 112 illegal foreigners have been repatriated from Gombe State to their various countries of origin in the last eight months.
The Comptroller of the NIS in the state, Yunusa Aliyu, told journalists in Gombe that the exercise was as a result of a ministerial directive.
According to him, security service chiefs in the state will embark on another round of operations to identify illegal aliens.
Aliyu said that most of the aliens repatriated were Nigeriens, who were found in Gombe and Akko Local Government Areas of the state.
“Initially, most of the people we repatriated were from Niger Republic, but now, with the situation in Mali, we are having problems of Malians. These Malians are mainly on transit, but that does not mean that some of them are not around here,” he said.
“They are in transit to where? Some of them are coming here through Adamawa to Cameroon. So, that is why whenever we apprehend them, we make sure we take them out to Cameroon border until we hand them over.
“We have been having Malians, one or two, but in the past one or two months, we have seen series of them coming in transit.”
He advised the people of the state to assist the service to ensure security in the country.
