The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Eric Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the NFF confirmed the appointment of the 47-year-old Malian coach.
“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has approved the appointment of Mr. Éric Sékou Chelle as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles,” the statement said.
The decision follows a recommendation from the NFF’s Technical and Development Sub-Committee during their meeting on January 2, 2025, in Abuja, and was officially endorsed by the NFF Executive Committee on January 7, 2025.
Chelle, who previously managed Mali’s national team, led them to the quarter-finals in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire before their elimination in a close extra-time defeat to the host nation.
His first major challenge as head coach will be in March, when the Super Eagles take on Rwanda and Zimbabwe in crucial qualifiers. Nigeria is currently ranked fifth in Group C, having not won any of their four previous games.
