The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a warning regarding plans by some individuals in certain regions of the nation to organize violent protests in an effort to malign the Federal Government and security organizations over a variety of socioeconomic issues.
In a news release on Monday, the DSS said that intelligence assessments had revealed that the plotters included certain politicians who were frantically recruiting unwitting student leaders, ethnic-based organizations, young people, and disaffected groups for the intended operation.
The DSS claimed to have located the plot’s key players and is closely observing them to prevent them from destabilizing the nation.
The DSS also recommended that vice chancellors of universities and heads of higher institutions dissuade their students from taking part in activities that could disrupt public order.
Peter Afunanya, Ph.D., fsi, Public Relations Officer, Department of State Services, National Headquarters, Abuja, signed the statement.
Press release: DSS uncovers plan to stage violent protests throughout the nation.
The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby notifies the public that it has learned of plots by some individuals in several regions of the nation to organize violent demonstrations in an effort to cast doubt on the Federal Government and security agencies over various socioeconomic issues. According to intelligence reports, the plotters include certain politicians who are frantically rallying gullible student leaders, ethnic-based organizations, young people, and disaffected groups for the intended action. To prevent them from throwing the nation into anarchy, the Service has identified the plot’s ringleaders and has been continuously monitoring the area around them.
University vice chancellors and heads of tertiary institutions are urged to prevent their students from taking part in actions that could disrupt the public peace in light of this development. Additionally, parents and guardians are required to caution their children and wards to resist the temptation to engage in unlawful behavior or conduct.
While the DSS is aware of the government’s efforts and resolve to address some of the issues facing the country, it cautions those wishing to compromise national security to go back their previous steps. This is more so that it won’t hesitate to take legal action against the people and organizations responsible for the cunning plots.
