The National Emergency Management Agency has urged the Ekiti State Government to evacuate residents living in houses built on water channels in some areas in the state capital.
The NEMA officials, shortly after assessing the major areas affected by the flooding said about 78 houses stood the risk of being washed away.
The Assistant Zonal Coordinator of NEMA in the South West, Mr. Babatunde Adebiyi suggested to the state government to widen the watercourses to avert the danger posed by flooding.
Adebiyi visited Ajowa-Dalemo, Omisanjana, Moferere, and Iworoko areas of the state capital to assess areas which could be affected by the disaster.
According to him, some of the structures on the waterlogged areas are residential buildings, churches and schools.
He appealed to the residents to desist from dumping refuse in the drainage. He added that most of the disasters being experienced in the country were caused by humans.
