Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, popularly known as Abbas Ajakaiye and founder of The Turn of Mercy Church, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for allegedly orchestrating multiple illicit drug shipments into Nigeria.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed that the cleric was taken into custody on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his church located in Okun Ajah, Ogombo Road, Lekki, Lagos. Operatives reportedly monitored the premises from morning and waited until the close of the evening service before moving in as he exited the building.
The arrest came after months of pursuit during which Olasele evaded capture, fleeing to Ghana after twice escaping NDLEA operatives. He has been linked to two major seizures of “Ghana Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis smuggled into Nigeria via the waterways.
The first haul, weighing 200kg, was intercepted on June 4, 2025, at Okun Ajah beach, while a second consignment of 700kg was seized from his delivery van on July 6, 2025.
During interrogation, Olasele allegedly admitted to transporting the cannabis from Ghana to Nigeria and going into hiding in the neighbouring country after narrowly avoiding arrest on two previous occasions.
The NDLEA has pledged to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law as investigations continue into his criminal network and potential accomplices.
