On Thursday, Nigeria faced yet another nationwide blackout following a collapse of the national power grid.
Reports indicate that the grid went down around 11:20 a.m., disrupting bulk power supply across the country. The news was confirmed on X by the Nigeria National Grid, tweeting, “BREAKING: Another Grid Setback Experienced.”
This marks the second grid failure in a single week and the twelfth in the past eleven months, sparking mixed reactions among Nigerians on social media.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to release an official statement explaining the latest collapse. However, after Tuesday’s outage, TCN had attributed the disruption to issues with transmission lines and generator trips.
On Wednesday, Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu received a report investigating these frequent grid failures, though its findings have not yet been made public. Amid the recurring issues, many Nigerians have called for Adelabu’s dismissal over the persistent power outages.
