The President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, has alleged that Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State instructed him to create the Kungiya Zaman Lafiya ethnic militia group. Bodejo claimed that the governor pressured him to form the group. It’s worth noting that Bodejo was arrested on January 23, 2024, by operatives of the Defence Intelligence Agency at the group’s office in Nasarawa State’s Karu Local Government Area for allegedly launching a militia group, and has been in custody ever since. He was accused of creating the Kungiya Zaman Lafiya ethnic militia without authorization. On March 22, 2024, the Miyetti Allah leader was arraigned before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja on three counts of terrorism. In his confession, Bodejo claimed that Governor Sule was behind the creation of the militia group. Bodejo stated that he received a call from the governor in early January 2024 expressing his interest in establishing a vigilante group distinct from those of his counterparts. According to Bodejo, Governor Sule said that all governors had agreed to establish vigilante groups in their states, like Katsina State had done, but he didn’t want to set up his group like other state governors. He said he wanted to use all those who participated in the political rally before the election, and he intended to link them with the military, and they would serve him as vigilantes. Bodejo informed the governor that he couldn’t work with the leader of the group, Akajo, because he was at the national level. Nonetheless, he asked Akajo to meet with him, and they discussed how to operate the Kungiya Zaman Lafiya in the state. Bodejo told the Emir of Lafia that he didn’t like the group because people complained about them. Bodejo inquired about the number of Akajo’s men and asked to see their ID cards, which he did. The ID cards were signed and authorized by the CSO to the Nasarawa State governor. Bodejo said that Governor Sule called him two weeks later to come with Akajo, despite informing the governor about the negative narratives surrounding Akajo’s group.
