Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has returned to social media to pay a solemn tribute to his two close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, who lost their lives in a tragic car accident in Nigeria.
A Show of Solidarity
Breaking his silence on Sunday just days after returning to the UK Joshua shared an emotional photograph showing him standing in solidarity with the grieving families of the deceased. This post marks his first public communication since the devastating incident on December 29.
He captioned the image simply:
“My Brother’s Keeper ❤️️❤️.”
Survival by a Whisker
Details of the crash on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway reveal a miraculous escape for the 36-year-old boxer. Reports indicate that the SUV collided with a stationary truck following a suspected brake failure.
Joshua reportedly escaped death by switching seats just moments before the collision. He had moved from the front passenger seat to the back because his large frame was obstructing the driver’s view. While he sustained a leg fracture, he was discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Eve and did not require emergency intervention.
Final Respects
The remains of Sina and Latz are scheduled to be laid to rest today, Sunday. Joshua, who had originally traveled to Nigeria for a holiday following his victory over Jake Paul, is now back in the UK recovering from the ordeal.
