Shoes are a lady’s best friends. She fawns over them, adores them and takes good care of them like she would do for prized treasure. And that’s all well and good seeing as shoes can make or break an outfit. Shoes accentuate a lady’s features and add colour and style to any get-up. No wonder some ladies spend a fortune amassing a collection of shoes, not just for wearing, but also for the aesthetic value (just look at Imelda Marcos). Yeah, not everyone has the purchasing power to spend on shoes, but as a lady there are some shoes you must have least one pair of; these will finish up any outfit you put together. Pay attention as I show you around the shoes I believe every lady must have.
1. Classic ballet-type slippers. Or flat shoes as some people might call them. If you don’t have any shoes at all, you should have a pair of these. They are comfortable to wear and easy to walk in for everyday women. Slip into a pair of these when you’re heading to that 2-hour lecture or for that extra busy day at the office. Feeling extra stylish? Why not ditch the conventional black pair and go for a pop of colour with a bright red or silver pair of flats?
2. A pair of 3-inch pumps. Yeah I specified height. So maybe you think a ballet slipper is too laid back for the office, or you’re more comfortable walking in heels. Then this is the right choice for you. It’s just the right height that it’s formal enough, and it exudes elegance, and bolsters your confidence (especially since it gives your butt a lift ;)). Or maybe you’re going out on the town with your girlfriends or to a classy restaurant with your man, but are not so great with 6-inch stilettos? This is just for you as well. Throw on a black pair with your work clothes or a classic red pair for that night out; you can even go wild and get a sequined number for an extra chic look.
3. A nude pair of pointy heels. Every lady must have this! I repeat, every female must have this! A nude pair of shoes is just the right colour to elongate your legs and make you look taller. Paired with a pencil skirt or dress, it just plays tricks on the eyes of onlookers. Wear it to work with a blazer while keeping the accessories minimal and professional. You can also throw it on for a Saturday afternoon out with friends in your jeans and floral blouse. The heel height is totally up to you.
N.B. What may be nude for you, may not be nude for the next girl, so choose wisely sister.
4. A wedge. I have never seen a lady who doesn’t look good in a wedge; in fact I think it’s impossible to not look good in a wedge. Because the heel is spread out over the entire shoe base, it doesn’t exert so much pressure on one part of your foot and is extremely comfortable to walk in. Plus it comes in different forms and footwear types and can be worn anywhere with anything! Going to the beach? Throw on a pair of flip-flops with a wedge heel in addition to that floral print mini dress. You’ll look great, plus you won’t get so much sand in your feet. Are you going dancing? Why not ditch the stilettos and pick up a 6-inch wedge sandal instead, you’ll be queen of the dance floor! Pair a cool-coloured full-covered or peep toe wedge with your work clothes or even school clothes. It will be a welcome change.
5. Sneakers. This piece of footwear is not reserved for the tomboys out there. A pair of sneakers always looks good with denim, and the look can be spruced up with a jacket and subtle jewellery. Also this is a go-to pair for house-mums who are constantly walking in and out, cooking, cleaning, shopping and car-pooling. Sneakers are also a great shoe kind to go dancing in (Yes, I said it. You can quote me). Besides, what did you think you were going to go to the gym in?
So ladies, you’ve seen my list. I hope you’re re-evaluating your shoe closet and are currently stocking up on Asos or River Island (or maybe you’ve called your local dealer over in Balogun. It doesn’t matter, t+he end justifies the means.) Do you think I missed anything out? Let me know through the comment box. Have a good evening.
