An unspecified number of individuals have tragically lost their lives in a tanker explosion in Rivers State.
The victims are feared to have perished as a result of a fuel-laden tanker exploding at the Eleme section of the East-West Road in the state.
Reports indicate that the explosion occurred around 9:45 pm and impacted other vehicles caught in a traffic jam.
The incident occurred near the Indorama Petrochemical Company along the Akpojo-Onne axis of the East-West Road, a route leading to several critical national facilities.
A witness recounted: “We heard two extremely loud blasts a few moments ago, and there was chaos. A tanker erupted into flames.
“The noise originated from the area near the Petro-Chemical company. Upon stepping outside, I witnessed thick smoke and flames in the distance.”
