The mother of the former queen of the Ooni of Ife has appealed for help regarding her daughter’s alleged involvement in a tragic incident that led to the deaths of several children during a Christmas party in Ibadan.
According to NAIJALOG, a court in Ibadan on Tuesday ordered the remand of Olori Prophetess Naomi Silekunola and others in connection with a stampede that claimed the lives of 40 minors.
Funmilayo Ogunseyi, Naomi’s mother, insists her daughter is innocent, emphasizing that she was only trying to support and care for the less privileged.
In an emotional video shared online, Ogunseyi revealed that Naomi, who is currently detained in a correctional facility, is in poor health and physically fragile.
“Have mercy on me. Mothers, have mercy. Come to my rescue. Don’t let my life be destroyed,” Ogunseyi said.
“My child only came to Ibadan to help the needy; this was not her first time. We have travelled across the country helping children and the vulnerable.
“I sympathise with the families who lost their children; it was never our intention. Please, don’t let Naomi be imprisoned—she is innocent. She only came to show compassion.”
“She is fragile and sick. Naomi fainted at the station, and they still took her to court. I don’t know where else to turn to. They say her ordeal is an ‘order from above.”
