The mother of murdered tot Muhammad Hassan Khan has been charged with his murder.

Two relatives of Hazel Waters, 46, one of whom believed to be her brother, were present when she appeared in court this morning.

The brief hearing took only five minutes and Ms Waters has been remanded in custody to appear in court again next Wednesday October 22.

The court was told that the little boy died sometime between the night of Wednesday October 15 to Thursday October 16.

The court heard that the boy’s full name was Muhammed Hassan Khan.

Detective Sergeant Joe O’Hara told the court that Ms Waters was arrested at 10.30pm last night and charged with his murder at 10.52pm – to which she made no reply.

Wearing a black trouser suit, Ms Waters looked anxious and nervous during the brief court appearance.

She stared at the floor and appeared emotionless throughout.

Her solicitor Padraig O’Donovan told the judge his client had asked not to undergo a psychiatric assessment.

The boy’s father Mohamed Saleem Khan, an acupuncturist, is being comforted by friends at mosques in the capital.

The devastated dad, who doted over his son, called into the Islamic centre on the South Circular Road on Friday.

Administrator Mudafar Altawash said: “We are all sad about this because it has happened to somebody so young.

“Mr Khan visited the centre for a short time this morning and left with friends.

“The community is very upset at such an event.”

Ms Waters’ family were also being comforted in Ballybrack, South Dublin.
