A Free State mother is heartbroken after she accidentally killed her 15-month-old daughter by knocking her over with her car in their driveway on her way to work.

Marilize Terblanche, 26, hysterically called her husband George on Wednesday morning with the words, “George, I drove over my child,” revealedRapport on Sunday.

Her husband rushed outside and found their daughter, Erica, lying lifeless in front of his wife’s car.

“She had no pulse. I just screamed: ‘No, no, not my child,” a devastated George told on Saturday.

“Marilize picked up Erica, sat on the ground, hugged her and just cried,” told Terblanche.

He said following the accident, his wife and their two other children, Monique, 8, and Ruan, 4, had left their Welkom home and were currently living with his parents. His wife was refusing to come home and also said she didn’t want to see her car again.

Terblanche said his wife cried all day and had been to see a psychologist.

“It was just an accident, but it changed our lives forever. It is terribly painful for all of us. All we can do now, is to take every day as it comes. With the Lord’s mercy and support from friends and family we have been getting through each day,” he said.
