Mr. Joseph Aloba, father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has formally petitioned the Lagos State Government, demanding the prosecution of his son’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, and others implicated in the Coroner’s Inquest into the singer’s death.
The appeal was contained in a letter addressed to the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), and signed by Aloba’s counsel, Wahab Shittu (SAN).
In the petition, Aloba specifically urged the government to take legal action against Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered an injection to Mohbad shortly before his death in September 2023. He also called for the prosecution of others who were present at the scene, particularly those who invited the nurse or failed to provide timely medical assistance.
Citing the Coroner’s verdict delivered in July 2025 by Magistrate Taofikat Shotobi, the petition emphasized that the nurse’s actions were found to be “unlawful and professionally negligent,” as the injection was administered without a doctor’s prescription.
Despite the Coroner’s findings, Shittu expressed concern that no criminal charges have been filed against the implicated parties, more than two months after the judgment.
“Our client, as a bereaved father seeking justice, is disturbed that, despite the clear indictments contained in the Coroner’s verdict, no prosecutorial action has been taken since July 11, 2025,” the letter partly read.
The lawyer urged the Attorney-General to commence prosecution within 14 days, stressing the matter’s public importance and sensitivity.
He further requested that if the government fails to act, the Attorney-General should authorize his legal team to pursue the case on behalf of the state under the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State.
