The family of the late singer Mohbad has opposed actor Yomi Fabiyi’s recent call for a protest at the upcoming court hearing.

Naijalog previously reported that Mohbad died under unclear circumstances on September 12, 2023. His body was later exhumed for an autopsy at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

The toxicology report did not find any conclusive evidence related to his cause of death. Unhappy with the results, Mohbad’s family requested an independent autopsy.

As part of preparations for Mohbad’s one-year anniversary, Fabiyi urged the public to hold a peaceful protest at the upcoming court hearing and suggested a similar demonstration for the anniversary itself to push for justice.

In response, the family, through a statement issued on Wednesday by a member of its legal team, Monisola Odumosu, expressed concerns that protesting near the court could disrupt proceedings. The statement emphasized the need for all actions to be carried out respectfully to avoid contempt of court.

“Anyone is free to do whatever they wants so far he or she does it within the confines of the law. The Constitution gives everyone the right to express his or her grievances.

“However coming within the court precinct is another issue entirely. They must not make noise. The business of justice in the court must not be disturbed in any manner. Lest they be charged for contempt of Court.

“Our advice is that they should not disrupt the proceedings in the court in any form whilst they exercise their rights,” the statement said.
