The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, reportedly arrested an event organizer in Abuja for allegedly impersonating the ministry.
In a viral video, the minister was seen halting the event, which was organized by Mela-Chiyoma Pat Limited on Thursday.
According to the minister, the event, titled “Unveiling the Power of Women and Food Security,” was conducted under the name of the Ministry of Women Affairs without proper authorization.
Ohanenye disclosed that President Bola Tinubu had canceled the event, but the organizer proceeded with it regardless.
“There is impersonation happening here. The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs did not plan this event.
The organizer has been arrested and is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS),” the minister stated.
“After we issued a cancellation notice, the president approved postponing the event until further notice, but she still went ahead and printed materials for it.
This is an act of impersonation. By presenting it as an official ministry event, it constitutes fraud. That is why I am here to clarify the situation to everyone. She has been arrested,” Ohanenye added.
The minister emphasized that the event should not have been organized under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, noting that the president was displeased with the situation.
