Microsoft has said it is starting a fresh wave of internal layoffs that will affect an undetermined number of personnel working in customer care, support, and sales.
The exercise, according to the corporation, comes on top of the January reduction that resulted in 10,000 layoffs during that time.
In response to GeekWire’s request, the company confirmed the layoff and said the move was necessary for business management, particularly as it prepares to begin its fiscal year 2024 in July.
Although the exact figure isn’t revealed, there are indications that the loss would affect 276 people in the company’s home state of Washington.
According to a statement from a Microsoft spokesperson:
“Organizational and workforce adjustments are a necessary and regular part of managing our business. We will continue to prioritize and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in support of our customers and partners.”
It would be recalled that a few weeks into the year 2023, Legit.ng had compiled a list of global top companies that had already announced intentions to sack a combined 97,000 staff.
Along with Microsoft, the staff of other major companies including Stripe, Meta, Coinbase Lyft and Twitter were also affected in the surprising layoffs.
