Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is set to replace Chris Wilder at Middlesbrough.
According to Sportsmail, Carrick is in advanced talks with a Championship club in order to make his first full-time managerial move.
The 41-year-old spoke with Boro last week but expressed disinterest in the role.
It is believed that the issues at the time were related to backroom personnel and control over transfers.
Carrick, on the other hand, is getting closer to taking over as manager of the club.
He could even be in charge when Huddersfield visit on Saturday, a crucial game in the battle for survival with both teams in the bottom three.
Carrick worked under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford and wants to bring former United assistants Mike Phelan and Rene Muelensteen with him to the North-East.
