The Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has called for the restructuring of the 36 states in the federation into six geopolitical zones, else Nigeria’s growth will be retarded.
According to Ekweremadu, the removal of the 36 states will unleash the growth potentials of the different regions which have been hampered by the reckless actions of past military government.
The Deputy Senate President expressed this in his new book: Who will love my country: Ideas of building the Nigeria of our dreams.
He praised the founding fathers: Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamadi Azikiwe and Sir Ahmadu Bello, for laying the groundwork for true federalism at the time Nigeria got her independence.
Ekweremadu further posited that the assertion that fiscal federalism would bring about unequal growth were false, saying that even in the forest, not all trees are equal.
