Stephen Onoche, aka ‘loverboy’ On March 29, 2012, was evicted from the Nigerian Idol contest after he emerged as the contestant with the lowest votes.
The week before saw a night full of entertainment as the three contestants Stephen, Mercy and Joe Blue jointly sang Afrobeat legend Fela’s ‘Water’ in the presence of Grammy award nominee Femi Kuti, the guest judge for the show.
Right before his eviction, Stephen delivered an energetic and well-choreographed performance of ‘Adanma’ by Flavor and later performed Fela’s ‘Gentleman’ for his final set.
Sadly, his performance could not secure him the final ticket as the audience believed Mercy and Joe Blue did better.
Mercy thrilled the audience with Victor Uwaifo’s ‘Joromi’ and completed the performance with a wonderful delivery of Fela’s ‘Zombie’ while Joe Blue brought down the building with his energetic performance of popular Fela track ‘Palava’.
The finalists Mercy and Joe Blue now stand a chance to win a grand prize valued at $100,000 which includes a management and recording contract. The winner also gets an SUV and many other prizes; including gifts from lead sponsor Etisalat.
