Mayorkun, the renowned Afrobeat artist, shared insights into how he almost erased the cover video that propelled him to fame and how posting it on social media led to a connection with Davido. Speaking on the Tea With Tay podcast hosted by actor Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh (Taymesan), the former DMW signee revealed that in 2016, while working at a bank, he recorded a cover video of himself freestyling with a keyboard. Faced with low phone memory, he contemplated deleting the clip but decided to upload it on Twitter as a backup.
Surprisingly, the video gained immense popularity, going viral. This twist of fate led to Mayorkun’s discovery by Davido, who not only noticed the video but also became an immediate follower. This connection ultimately played a pivotal role in Mayorkun becoming a significant signee of DMW Records. Reflecting on the incident, Mayorkun mentioned receiving notifications on his phone while at work in the bank and realizing that Davido had liked and followed him after the video gained traction on Twitter.
