It was a day of agony and unforgettably bitter experience for students, especially female students, of Bayelsa State College of Health Technology Otuogidi, Ogbia Town when some masked men recently attacked their hotel at 11:20 p.m.
The heavily armed and masked men numbering six, allegedly invaded the female Hostel A of the college and operated from room to room dispossessing their victims of all their valuables.
In an operation that lasted till the next morning, they reportedly robbed, raped and maimed female students in the hostel with no resistance from the security men.
According to reports, a total of 28 females students were said to be victim of the attack. They were allegedly robbed, raped and even a student who probably resisted the attackers was attacked and cut with a machete at the back of the head and left writhing in pains.
By dawn the students protested what they termed ‘negligence on the part of the school authorities. The provost was accused of turning deaf hears to the demands of the students for adequate security noting that the chairman of Ogbia local government area was the only one who gave attention to the students.
Activities were reportedly shut down on campus in protest by the students who were embittered by the attack. The students are still protesting and calling for adequate security on campus while the victims of the attack are still nursing their pains.
