Manchester United forward Anthony Martial was more suited to Loius Van Gaal’s style of play than his current approach, according to Jose Mourinho.
Martial has not had the best of times at the Red Devils this season, despite starting his career at the Old Trafford with a bright start last season. The Frenchman was mainly used a centre forward under Loius Van Gaal but has been deployed to the flanks without making impact.
The Portuguese boss has explained how Martial would have fit in best for the Red Devils before his arrival this season.
‘First of all the teams are very different,’ Mourinho said. ‘The way the team played last season was probably more adaptive to Anthony.
‘He was probably more comfortable playing that way, at that intensity, at that rate of ball possession and ball circulation.’
Mourinho then indicated that the 20-year-old forward may not feature in his future plans at the Old Trafford, He added: ‘You have one opportunity, you have two, you have three – if you don’t bite then somebody comes and takes the bait.’
