Manchester United has fired coach Erik ten Hag after their 2-1 loss to West Ham United on Sunday. The club announced the decision on Monday, expressing gratitude for Ten Hag’s contributions and wishing him well for the future.
In the interim, Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over as head coach, supported by the existing coaching staff, while the club searches for a permanent replacement.
This defeat left United in 14th place in the league, with only three wins from their first nine games. Ten Hag faced criticism last season after the team finished eighth, but a surprising victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final earned him a contract extension until 2026. During his time at the club, Ten Hag won two trophies: the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup in 2023.
