The man who hacked into the Email account of a couple of women to steal unclad photos and videos has been sentenced to 18 months in jail.
36 year old, Ryan Collins, from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, plead guilty in May to hacking at least 50 Apple iCloud and 72 Gmail accounts between November 2012 and September 2014.
Many of the hacked accounts belonged to female celebrities including actresses Jennifer Lawrence, Kirsten Duns and Kate Upton those whose unclad pictures were uploaded online in what became known as “The Fappening”
Collins got the victims to unknowingly send their username and passwords by sending fake Emails which appeared to be from Apple or Google.
“In some instances, Collins would use a software program to download the entire content of the victims’ Apple iCloud backups”, the Pennsylvania Attorney’s office said in a statement.
Also, Collins made a modeling scam which tricked his victims into sending unclad pictures.
However ,the attorney’s office stated that investigators have not gotten any evidence to prove that Collins uploaded or shared the information or images or that he was linked to the actual leaks.
Collins was the first one to be arrested in relation to the security breach.
