John Cunningham is accused of killing his uncle after they became embroiled in a dispute over the cut of pork that they were cooking, CBS St. Louis reports .
The 43-year-old from Jennings, Mo. has been charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action after shooting his uncle, Lessie Lowe, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports .
The shooting occurred on Monday after the two men began arguing over whether the meat they were planning to cook was pork steaks or pork chops.
Cunningham said they were pork steaks, but Lowe maintained that they were not.
Police said that when the argument became physical, the two were separated by someone else in the house. Unable to let his uncle off the hook for misidentifying the cut of meat, Cunningham allegedly retrieved a shotgun and shot Lowe.
Lowe later died at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Cunningham was taken into custody. According to the Post-Dispatch, he was, in fact, correct about the meat – it was pork steaks.
Food has been at the center of other violent crime of late. Earlier in September, a man allegedly stabbed and killed another man over a bag of Cheetos near the St. Louis convention center. In Point Marion, Pa., George Rhome allegedly attacked his son and daughter-in-law after they served him chicken that was baked and not fried.
