The death of a man identified only by his nickname who died in a brothel at Iyana Ipaja, Lagos State is still shrouded in mystery, after the owners and workers of the business premises where the death took to their heels .
Jekere a regular patron of T & K International Hotel died in the hotel cum brothel after passing the night there.
According to information gleaned from Punch Metro, Jereke was a commercial bus driver, plying Iyana Ipaja – Igando Road, who on that on the fateful day, the driver, after the day’s work had gone to the brothel to unwind as usual.
Eye witness accounts however say that one of the prostitues at the hotel might have posioned him.
A resident, who spoke anonymously, said neighbours were awoken by a noise from the place in the early hours of Tuesday.
He said, “When we asked what the noise was all about, we were told that a customer died in the brothel.
“When we went in, we saw the deceased in a pool of blood. Blood gushed out of his mouth. It looked as if he was poisoned.”
The resident said the deceased was popular in the area because he was a frequent visitor to the brothel.
“That Tuesday morning, some people came to carry his corpse out of the hotel. His body was covered with blood. I do not know where they took him to,” he added.
Another resident on the street, who also declined to give his name, said he might have been poisoned by one of the prostitutes, who probably capitalised on his state of stupour.
“The man went in there after working for the day. Mark you, the man was a driver. He must have come into the brothel with all the money he made for the day. Those prostitutes cannot be trusted; he could have been poisoned to collect the money on him,” he said.
However, in a case like this , varying explanations are always given, another resident who spoke and identified herself as Uchenna said the victim had a room in the hotel and that he died inside the room.
“Many tongues have been wagging that he died during sex with a prostitute but that is not true.
“On the fateful day, up till 8am, his room was still locked. They knocked at his door, no response before the door was forced open. When the door was opened, it was noticed that he had died.
“The man lived in Iyana Oba. It is when he could not go home that he would sleep in the brothel.”
As of yesterday the scene of the mystery death was deserted and under lock and key. The incident occurred on Tuesday.
