In a horrific incident, a member of Johane Marange Apostolic Sect in Seke allegedly axed his first wife to death before stabbing his second wife at his workshop at Dema Growth Point in the early hours of Thursday Morning under unclear circumstances.
Madzibaba Godden Mabwe allegedly fled the scene but was later arrested on Sunday in Goromonzi in a bushy area where he was reportedly trying to commit suicide. One of the wives, Madzimai Ndabari Maibeki (32), died on the spot, with a deep cut on her neck whilst the other wife only identified as Arletta was rushed to Chitungwiza Central Hospital where she received treatment and got discharged. The axewas also found next to the deceased’s body which was in a pool of blood.
A source close to the parties told our news crew that Arletta, the second wife, revealed that she was attacked from her sleep and woke up in a pool of blood and was rushed to hospital. Sources revealed that Mabwe’s pot molding machine was running hence they could not hear any noise from the place.
Nyasha – sister to the deceased Ndabari – said it was not the first time that Godden hadthreatened to axe her sister. She narrated an incident in which Godden allegedly threatened to axe her sister after an altercation over plates.
“This is not the first time. He once threatened to axe her whilst they were in Masvingo after a dispute over plates. They once had a dispute after Godden brought in a second wife and my sister came back to our parents home but he begged her to return to him. Barely after a year, this has happened. I do not know what led to this,” said Nyasha.
Acting Mashonaland East Provincial Community Relations and Laison Officer, Norbert Muzondo confirmed the incident and said investigations were still in progress and could not shed finer details at the time of going to press.
