The Adamawa State Police Command has nabbed a man for allegedly stoning his two children to death.
The command said its operatives apprehended 25-year-old Elisha Tari on Friday, August 18, after he allegedly murdered two of his children aged between three and five years in the Himikidu community of Michika Local Government Area where they lived.
The Command, in a statement signed and sent to newsmen Saturday afternoon by police spokesman Suleiman Nguroje, said Tari killed the children with stones and sticks “which he had used in hitting them on their heads severally.”
The incident was reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Michika, by the grandfather of the victims, the police said.
According to the statement, “Preliminary investigation reveals that the victims’ mother got separated from the suspect two months ago after they had a misunderstanding.”
The police explained that the suspect was arrested while he was trying to escape to the Cameroon Republic, and is currently in Police custody undergoing interrogation.
The police said part of the investigations is for operatives to ascertain why the man would use stones and sticks to kill his own children.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Sikiru Akande, who expressed his sadness over the in-human act, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police CID to take over investigation and ensure prosecution of the suspect to serve as deterrant to others,” the statement added.
