Hey hey hey. I’m sorry for the late post, but lately my side-day job involves a lot of kicking which leaves me weak in my limbs. I’m thankful that all that kicking paid off in the end, because we won!! (Thank you, thank you :)) Now we’re in the finals. Anyway, back to base. Today, I’m going to be doing some lip-talk. Yeah, not all of us have the cash for Ruby-Woo or Riri-Woo, (if you do, praise master Jesus for that); but we all still want the matte-looking, long-lasting colour whenever we apply lipstick. As usual, I am here to bring you the beauty hacks whenever you need them. Here’s how to get your lip-colour to last longer.
1. Start out on a clean and smooth surface. Lipstick won’t stay on cracked, peeling lips. Also, nobody wants to see all those flakes, applying lipstick just makes them more pronounced. Make it a habit of applying lip-balm, that doesn’t contain mineral oil or petroleum jelly which dry out your lips, every night before you go to bed. This moisturises and treats damaged lips. In the morning, if you have any flakes, lightly use an old toothbrush (keyword is old, because that means its soft) to scrub off the dry skin. Re-apply some lip balm and wipe off when you’re ready to put on the lipstick.
2. Use a Lip-Liner. This defines your lips, and also gives you a guide to prevent bleeding lips. You can choose a colour in the shade of lipstick you plan to use, or one closer to your skin tone. It depends on if you want a full look or just a regular lip colour.
3. Create a base for your colour. This gives your lipstick something to sit on. Think of it as a way of priming your lips, you know the way you wear eye-shadow primer. You can use, foundation, concealer or even your lip-liner just to fill in your lips. You’d be amazed at the difference.
4. Use a brush to apply your lipstick. Take a look at your lips; see all those grooves and cracks? You need to get the lip-stick in there if you want it to last long. Using your finger or applying straight from the tube just smears it all over your lips. If you wipe it off with a tissue, you’re back to square on. A lip-brush, smooths it into your lip, then unto lips and stops you from applying too much lipstick. Thank me later.
5. Matte the colour on. To do this, you need some loose powder and one ply of tissue (separate that “box” to get the ply). Now place the tissue on your lips, and coat your covered lips in the loose powder. Press your lips together to matte the colour.
Now you can apply the lipstick straight from the tube. You can repeat the matte-ing process until you’re satisfied with the outcome. Remember, that any grease or oil will wear the colour out, so clean up when you’re done eating. Also, re-applying your lipstick only smears the colour, so matte your lips first before you do a touch-up (which I can honestly say that you won’t need).
That’s it ladies. Leave your comments, questions, suggestions and dis-satisfactions in the comments section. Stay beautiful people.
